About
About our new patio
New Patio is skilled work that pays to get right. Here is why it is worth bringing in an experienced local team:
We treat the base of a new patio as the most important part of the job. After excavating and laying a full, free-draining sub-base, we lay your chosen stone, porcelain or block to a set pattern, set the falls for drainage and point up the joints by hand. It is the care at each stage that keeps a patio flat, free-draining and looking good for years.

What's included
What's included with new patio
A professional new patio job is about more than the finish you see. Here is what is included when we do it properly:
- Excavation and a full, free-draining base
- Natural stone, porcelain or block laid to a set pattern
- Correct falls for drainage
- Joints pointed and the area cleaned down
The base
The part you never see, done properly
The base is the part you never see and the part that decides how long the patio lasts. We dig out to the right depth, remove the soft ground, and lay and compact a stone sub-base in layers so it cannot settle unevenly later. On the heavy clay found across much of north Essex that depth and compaction really matter, because clay holds water and moves with the seasons, and a patio laid straight onto it will crack and sink. We bed the slabs on a full mortar bed rather than spot dabs, so every slab is fully supported and there are no hollow, rocking or drumming areas underfoot.
Materials and finish
Chosen, laid and cleaned down
We help you choose the right material for the look and the upkeep you want, from natural stone and porcelain to block, and we set out the layout before we start so the pattern works with the shape of the garden and the joints line up. We cut around the edges, steps and any manholes by hand for a clean fit, set the falls so water runs away from the house, and point or brush in the joints to suit the material. Where it helps, we can seal a natural stone patio to protect it and make it easier to keep clean.
From the first visit we give you a clear quote and a realistic timescale, and most domestic patios are laid within a few days once the groundwork is done. We lift and take away the old patio or slabs, protect your access while we work, and clear all the spoil and offcuts rather than leaving them behind. When we finish we clean the patio down and hand over a flat, free-draining surface that is ready to use and adds real usable space and kerb appeal to your home.
