The sub-frame is still where the work is. Composite boards expand and contract with the temperature, so we leave the correct gaps at the ends and along the joints, and set the joists at the spacing the manufacturer specifies so the boards never bow or sag between them. We build in falls and airflow so water runs off and the frame stays dry, and we use hidden clip fixings that lock the boards down while keeping the surface clean and screw-free.

Composite costs more than timber up front, but it earns that back in time saved: no annual staining or oiling, just an occasional wash to keep it fresh. A textured, grippy surface helps in the wet, and the colour stays even through the seasons rather than silvering like untreated wood. If you have an old timber deck that has seen better days, we can strip it out and rebuild in composite on a fresh, properly ventilated frame, and we take all the old material away.
